The Steel Can Recycling Council is an industry body dedicated to promoting steel can recycling in Australia. The Council comprises representatives from the Aerosol Association of Australia, the Canned Food Information Service, the Can Makers Institute of Australia and BlueScopeSteel Packaging Products.

Goals and targets

The Steel Can Recycling Council was established in 1996 to encourage consumers to send their steel cans to recycling rather than to landfill.

Australia currently recycles 44% of all steel cans consumed and the Steel Can Recycling Council would like to see this increase to 50% in the near future.

To meet this target, the Steel Can Recycling Council works with local, state and federal government, recycling contractors, can manufacturers, marketers, retailers, media and the general public.
